Translucent Quartz
what kind of rocks do i have in my backyard?

i live in south jersey and am about and hour and a half from the shore…i dig up rocks in my
backyard quite often and one day last year i came across some WAY better looking rocks…first of all i dug a lot deeper and found a lot of slate with iron ore. then i found an Absolutely stunning thing….it was an ice pink rock that was a little translucent. it looked like rose quartz but im not sure…..i just found out that my neighborhood used to be a pig farm in the 1800s and i live don in the country/suburbs so i have a big back yard…..down at my school had some black granite. the ground is very rocky here but u have to dig deep to find good ones….plz help me also i need tips for excavating and digging techiniques. thx :)

Ha! You sound like me-doesn’t take much to make you happy…rocks, dirt, sticks, etc… anyway you sound very “grounded” (HA!)
Could be quartz or even a hunk of leftover glass (google “cullet”) from and old factory in colonial times. Check out glass history-colonial glass…
For hard soils and to help to pry up the big ones you need a pick and a pry/wrecking bar for leverage. Use of a fulcrum helps, too.
